Forward we go

Due to our saddle fitting fun in my last update, I talked with several makers last week and it appears the best fit looks to be a wide/FQHB tree so there is no sense getting rid of my saddle this point.  CJ at Synergist did say it could be modified to fit better based off his tracings compared to the saddle dimensions, but I can get a Skito pad with shims for him made that can be adjusted as he grows into the saddle with muscle changes – so that is what I am doing.  Tom at Skito is of great help and I can’t wait to get the new pad next week.  Once he’s had some time to change shape/fitness I’ll re-address modifying the saddle.

Amanda & I got together to ride over the weekend, nothing too crazy being his first time out of the ring here and knowing we have an imperfect saddle fit (tho I did throw some inserts inserts in the Christ to see how that felt – which was better).  Can I just say our ride was awesome?!

We did about 5miles on home trails right off barn property. He led, followed, walked, and trotted. The only “oh-Sh*t’ moment for me was a full body shake on a wet sweaty horse I wasn’t prepared for and had to hug his neck to stay on!  He passed our home trail test with flying colors – which involved woods, creeks (ok the small one we had to use Cheyenne to make sure he didn’t try to hop it – but the big crossing he went straight in and I think he would love to go swimming as he just started exploring), and the big test – open field trotting with no fuss. He and Cheyenne made a good pair on trail, granted she would have to trot to catch up on occasion, but neither cared where they were in line.
Amanda and I have a set up a bunch of dates to start hauling out to condition and get ready for hopefully completing LDs at Fort Valley and Gobble Till You Wobble 🙂  I figure I can always drop to Intro or volunteer to Drag ride if he isn’t ready.

My nose boxes are done, painted, and in! (without too much cussing)  Next I can order the mattress that fits in the space remaining and the inside is pretty much complete  – until I decide to tackle putting something up for walls instead of my fun green insulation 😊

Tuesday he got a new trim and Wednesday I remeasured all his hooves, took new photos, and put on hoof armor.  The size 2 Scoot Slims came last week but did not fit all that well it seemed, but after this trim fit was better.  Stacy @ Heartland Scoot Boots has been of great help and we will get his sizing figured out! These might fit his hinds best so I will check that out Friday.

I am still working on scheduling him for an adjustment and a body work session, which is proving not to be an easy pair of tasks to coordinate!

Can you spot the Chestnut?!
