No fancy title this time…just stopping in to do an update as it has been a while 🙂
After my fun at OD we went on a family vacation. We spent a week hiking, canoeing, swimming and relaxing in Shawnee, PA. We went there a few years back too. It is a reasonable driving distance away and had lots of outdoor stuff to do, so we decided to return this year after no trips the past summer. Kids now being older, bigger and stronger we took on a hike that included 1.25 miles up & 1250′ of elevation through rocks, and went the ‘easier’ way back down 2.25 miles which had a fun waterfall spot to play in too. It was a long day but lots of fun and one of our favorite hikes that week.

As far as the horses, we’ve squeezed in a few lessons of hauling Scooby to Longwood for Skyler to ride, and I finally rode him at one lesson. They are figuring each other out nicely and she seems even more determined after spending a week a Pony Camp. Everyone also had a dental with a Natural Balance Equine Dentist, which created a fun opportunity for Amy to haul 3 of hers here with Madison and her mom for the afternoon. Skyler got to watch Scooby being done, who as expected had a bit of mess to straighten out from “Amish Dentistry” as well as not being done in who knows how long. He actually got into it quite a bit, being the least drugged of the 3 boys and super chill. He’s also “endured” an Ostepath session with Jessica (lots to fix there and get his body/joints moving again correctly) and another farrier visit (still sound! but seeing old bruising come through on half that LF hoof)… after the dental and farrier he was just yawning and processing away, eyes rolling back in his head. I’m also trying to teach him has an opinion – and with that he has decided no more fly mask. He still gets a worried eye, but someday will realize our “work” isn’t like what he has been through before. One of the next few lessons I’m planning to haul Sully over with him and we can work on ponying and take a little walkabout the farm to see if he livens up some out of the ring. I still have yet to get him out on a trail for her, but I will at some point! I was able to make Sully’s saddle work for Scooby, so not looking for 2nd adult sized saddle for him just yet 😉
Sully had pretty much a month break, then finally got him out for a few training rides recently. Of course one planned outing was totally foiled by a screw in the truck tire! < sigh > He and Scooby have both ridden in the trailer separately, so now must see how they do together before we take our longer trip to the next clinic with both in August!
Prophecy is hanging in there too lol. He’s quite the brat and meany to Scooby without his muzzle on now (grass isn’t great due to lack of rain so he was losing too much weight). He enjoys his showers on hot days, got his mane chopped to deal with the recurring fairy knots, and greeted me this past Sunday morning with wound on the back side of his leg below the elbow 😒. No idea how he did it… Vet came out today to check on it and how it looked and so far so good. It is just going to take a long time to heal given the location and not doing stitches. Thankfully, so far he’s also being a good patient… 🤞
