Plugging Along

Gosh where to begin? I keep taking these long breaks from the blog because I feel stuck, and honestly frustrated and longing for what was these days.

I can’t believe I’m approaching two years (mid Oct) since I lost Sully, which also means it has been 3 years since I’ve completed a ride. This time of year is always a bit tough to juggle with both kids playing soccer and horse shows, but I can usually manage to ride bit more than I have this year! I think that is part of my problem…us horse gals feel lost and depressed when we can’t get saddle time. Now having my horses at home means I always get to see them and care for them, but seems like I don’t get to do much else lately. Hoping to turn that around soon, but currently isn’t looking promising to get out to do much until November.

We’ve seen changes this summer – For one, we delved into the world of chickens! Skyler incubated 8 eggs, hatched 6, and then we lost 3 over a few weeks due to a fox 😦 We have 2 roosters and a hen at the moment! We went on a week long family vacation to Sevierville, TN again and then school started. Which also means soccer practice 2x week for both of them (on different days, so every day but Tues is soccer!) and with Asher on the Travel team we have some games a few hours away. Skyler also has decided to try Cross-Country this fall through the school and has a few Saturday meets coming up! We’ve made it through both of their birthdays, but not the parties yet! 😛 Over Labor Day weekend we adopted a 2nd indoor kitty, Merlot, now Jasmine, from the SPCA. She is not integrated into the house yet, but soon. Recently we had a bit of drama with Bella, who apparently got a hold of some toy and ended up with an intestinal blockage requiring surgery. She has pretty much completely bounced back thankfully! There is one more horse show in October for this year; Skyler and Sally are at the top and seeking a Champion Short Stirrup Hunter year-end ribbon!

On a sadder note, Skyler and I bid farewell to Scooby sending him off to his new home in TN in early August. It was a super emotional day for us, but it was the mature decision and he looks very happy there. We have seen a few horses since for her to try out to find her next partner, and have plans to return to one in early October for 2nd ride. Horse “shopping” this time around is different – she knows what she wants and what she can handle working with, so the feedback from her has been great, and useful.

Hopefully my next update will be more upbeat, until then, enjoy some pics!
